A guide to herbs

With so many delicious herbs it is easy to get them mixed up… here is a picture guide and description…

    ROSEMARY

Rosemary is an herb in the mint family. It is a small evergreen shrub, Rosmarinus officinalis, whose  one inch leaves resemble curved pine needles. Rosemary has a tea like aroma and a piney flavor. Rosemary is used primarily  in lamb, pork, chicken, and rabbit dishes. 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

  BASIL

Sweet basil has a tender bright green foliage, that emit a spicy, clove-like aroma. Sweet basil leaves have a strong perfume. Basil is the main component in pesto. Basil can be used with potatoes, beans, meats and pastas. It goes great with tomatoes and mozzarella cheese!!!

 

 

SAGE

Golden Sage is a shrubby, evergreen perennial shrub with pale green and yellow leaves. Slightly bitter in flavor and highly aromatic, sage is one of the main ingredients in poultry seasoning.  It enhances meats and poultry as well as most vegetables. 

 MARJORAM

Marjoram has a delicate, sweet, pleasant flavor with a slightly bitter undertone .Marjoram is the yellow green leaf of Majorana hortensis, a low growing member of the mint family. It is a great herb for adding flavor to meat dishes.
